PostSubject: history lesson   Mon Nov 09, 2009 11:47 pm

went to the hobbystore, WAY outside my area. Was perusing their stash, and it dawned on me...My track is worthless!!! Sad

If i didnt already explain, here goes...

The track that's shown in the pictures are from a set labeled Marchon. Marchon is a conglomerate or Tyco and Tomy. They no longer make the Marchon track, so the only way to get it is thru eBay, BOOO!! and luck of the draw with individuals, pfft. I bought 2 'other' tracks to put together, one was LifeLike, no way in hell they were matching up, and the other was Tyco, mostly parts but still close but no cigar. I chopped up the Tyco to make the winner's circle and the pits area. As I was lurking the shelves at the hobby store, it dawned on me. They have Tyco!!! I can get parts!!!

I went home, and tore my Marchon apart, and put the Tyco pieces in it's place. Luckily I hadn't chopped all the ones i needed to re-make my set-up. I even ended up with a new configuration, and well I've got plans to extend my small track just a bit. Problem is this I'm practically back to square one when it comes to running. At least now I've got the ability to add to the track, instead of lurking several forums, and sites in hopes that my brand of track will show up.

Also, after sanding a floor down I have to beginnings or the 'dirt' for the hills. I bought me some formable 'grass' and well this weekend I'm laying in the majority of the landscaping. Pending any new formations i make with the track. Though It's been fun, I'm not thinking of doing a plastic track for my next build. Yeah that's right I'm thinking more tracks, but for now I want to get into routing my own. Seen several tracks that were hand built and I really like how smooth they look. Plus from what I've read they are super quiet. I sold off the LifeLike track, and after i get some more cars, i think i'll let another sucker get ahold of this Marchon I'm luggin' around, either that, or I sacrifice it to the track gods.

i'll get some new pics of the new layout, once i decide that's what i really want. Next step will be painting the track to make it resemble concrete. imo they messed up making it look like a phonograph. Sorry for the History lesson, but after a few weeks of research I've got to let some of it vent out Razz

PostSubject: track for sale or rent   Yesterday at 7:39 pm

Just got the two above today, they are both 1:32 and a bit bigger then the HO scale track i got, mainly eye candy for now. Hopefully I can get a "track" routed for them to play with once i get them lurked over. They are a couple steps beyond what I got set up for now.

The Truck is an HO scale magnet racer. Still NIB atm, but it's making noise to get on the track. It's an Auto World 4Gear '56 Ford Pickup Black/Tan, it's got magnets for traction, but I'm starting to get ready to go non-mag. From what I've read it's really the way to race, and saves the undercarriage of the cars.

The Marchon cars I'm running are showing lots of wear on the more then powerful magnets they have inside of them. On that note, when I was having issues with the track connection, I diagnosed that the mag's are pulling too much. When i removed the mag's from one car, it was able to get power fed to the car, but it was light as a feather, and couldn't "hold" the track. I'm lurking for ways to decrease the pull of the mag's and will prolly try to not use them as much.

Bought two new 15" straights to replace the broken ones I'm running, so hopefully that will fix my dead lane. Otherwise I got some laps in the other night with one car after cleaning the track up.

New landscaping install'd and the tunnel idea you told me bout got me thinkin' Razz

another side note:
bought more Carrera GO! track today, and will start to design a track using the two set's I got now for that. Ultimate set-up for that will include a bunch more track, and plenty of fun. One more set, and I'll have almost enough pieces for this:

then the wifey will be super pissed, guess I should just go back to smoking and forget all this Hobby shit affraid
